Frequently Asked Questions
What is Cigar Mechanic?
This is the big question.
This is the big answer.
Cigar Mechanic is the new standard in the humidification world. It is the #1 humidification product refill, and at the same time can be used in its own container and turn anything into a humidor.
Cigar Mechanic maintains perfect humidity using a nano-bead technology that is bi-directional. This means that the product regulates humidity in BOTH directions. It will release humidity when it is dry and needs it, and will not release any when it is not needed, absorbing moisture when it needs to.
This will not swell up in any way and it doesn’t turn into a gel. The only change you will see in the product is that it turns white when it is dry and when it is activated it is a clear color.
It will turn from clear to white by simply adding distilled water and draining the excess.
Cigar Mechanic is a refillable product that will last longer than your cigars will.
One bag of Cigar Mechanic will fill a large rectangle humidification unit that comes with most humidors. This is usually good for 50+ cigars.

How does it fit in any container?
Cigar Mechanic works with ANY container. (Note: Some travel humidors contain a unit that is too small for cigar mechanic, we recommend using a Cigar Mechanic Travel Cigar Tube.)
The product itself is the size of a BB from a BB gun. If you have a small container or smaller humidor use less product then before, if you use a larger humidor, you may need to use more beads.
A bag of Cigar Mechanic is 45 grams which will fill a large rectangle humidification unit in most humidors.

How long does the humidification last?
Like all things cigars this answer is subjective. It depends on many things, the condition of your cigars, your humidor and its condition, what humidity you prefer your cigars, and where you live to name a few.
Your cigars are a major determinate factor. If you are restoring dry cigars you may need to refill more often than cigars that are already humidified. The best part of Cigar Mechanic is that it is refillable and will last you longer than your cigars.
We have heard of the product lasting as long as a few weeks to a few months. Expect results in a range of two weeks to months.

How long does the product itself last?
Cigar mechanic has been privately tested , research has shown that it will last a few years. Damage to the pearls will prevent the product from working properly.

Does it work in the bag?
Yes. We will point out that we recommend its use as a refill in your current humidification system. However, if you are on the road or need something for the golf course, this is perfect in the bag.
We use a heavy duty 4 mm plastic bag with an extra strength zipp locking seal. The bag is also perforated so that simply by adding distilled water to the bag it can be used in any container. At this point you can turn anything into a humidor. A plastic bag, cooler, Plastic Ware, humidor, travel unit, anything. (Not your grandmother’s purse or your refrigerator.)

What does Perfect Humidity mean?
We will briefly explain this but please visit our Humidity and Humidor Information Sections for More Detailed information.
Perfect humidity is another subjective issue. It can be said though that cigars need to be kept in 62% to 72% humidity and at the same temperature range Fahrenheit. This will keep your cigars well.
We will say though that 70% is optimal for keeping your cigars.

How do you replace it in a humidification unit?
We like to call this our simple 5 point process.
- Open your humidor and assess your current humidification unit. Now pull that unit out and take it apart. (This may require thought and a tool or two.)
- Remove whatever may currently be in the unit.
- Clean it out and place the Cigar Mechanic into the unit.
- Add Distilled Water.
- After 45 seconds drain off excess water
Now you are ready to go, so put the unit in your humidor and get ready for the humidity magic.
